Careful design and a solid plan can increase sales via your website

We all agree that a visually “busy” website can be a turnoff. We can also agree that the more there is to read, the less likely we are to read it. These two concepts are often first in the mind of those designing website homepages. It’s occasionally in the mind of the owner of the site. What both groups are missing is the opportunity to have the website do more than act as an online business card. Instead of merely offering information about your business and your contact information,  your website can work as a marketing tool, help you pre-qualify sales, and perhaps even help you close them. It’s not a simple process, but it’s an incredibly effective one.

How can my website improve my sales?

Well, the first two notions mentioned above are a good place to start. Keep your site clean, simple, and to the point. Keep the info on the first page relevant to who you are and what you do, but offer just a taste of why those things should appeal to whomever lands on your site. That’s right just a taste. Then, once you’ve got their attention, give them the option to explore your site and learn more about the aspects of you and your business that interest them. Essentially, you are creating a sales funnel on your home page. This site offers some great examples of excellently designed homepages that feature sales funnels.

Go with what works, come prepared

Sales funnels are tried and true techniques and, when integrated into your website, can produce the most effective leads. Not a web developer of designer? No problem. A good marketing company can easily create a sales funnel for your website, but before you ask them to begin, think about your goals. What information do you want to get from your visitors? What actions would you like them to perform? What do you need to make or follow up on a sale? (don’t worry, most marketing firms can help you figure out the answers to these questions).

Protecting your investment

Your website is an investment. You paid money for it, you pay for upgrades, why not ensure that it’s giving back as much as you’ve put into it? A strong homepage design which implements a carefully planned marketing funnel can be one of the best ways to do just that.  Want to learn more?
