Customer responsiveness is number one. Ever had a change for your website or an idea for social media and the company that did your website is difficult to contact and takes two weeks or more to make your changes? A stale, inactive website gets little attention. But an active website is key to getting search engine attention as well as referrals from your website.
So when you are considering who should design your website, make sure you also find out how responsive company is both during and after the website is done. You might also want to find out the answers to these questions:
- How quickly does the company get back to you when you call or email?
- Are they marketing savvy, technically capable as well as good designers? Tech, marketing and design are the three areas you are looking for in a company
- How quickly will they make changes to your site that you are unable to do?
- Will the website be a CMS (content management system). In other words, can you login on the web and at least change some text or add a blog post?
- Will they provide any type of training or tutorials?
- Will your site be launched with the site files needed to invite search engines to visit your site?
- Will your site be launched with keywords (meta tags) on the pages? Or is that something they charge you for after publish. (This helps when comparing quotes.)
There are many other questions to consider but these are perhaps the biggest. Lack of response is the biggest complaint we hear from customers who have left other vendors.
